Good morning all. It's a nice day so far. I think we've got some rain predicted so
I thought I'd put the tarp up anyway. Just been collecting some rocks and I'm
going to make a bit of a fireplace here. I'm going to do a little bit of cooking today.
Just out the other side of our second storm in a week which is Storm Dennis.
It's brought down a lot of deadfall. There's a lot of trees over at the moment.
I'm hoping that means the stuff that's come down from the trees is nice and dry
compared to that that's been soaking on the floor in this rain.
So I'm going to finish making this fire pit. I'm going to collect some deadfall,
get a fire going and we'll cook something on a rock.
Just a few pieces of fatwood I brought with me because I knew how wet it was out here.
I have my jute twine bird's nest, my flint and steel, some charcloth and some paper birch I've
collected, my fatwood and some really fine kindling and some bigger stage stuff.
So I'm not taking any chances. I'm making a fire when it's wet conditions.
Just get everything prepped. It's looking like the fire's getting
there. There's some heat in the pit now so I can probably get the rock on there and start cooking.
As you probably know from the thumbnail, I'm doing a bit of a mixed grill today.
I've done the breakfast on a rock so I thought mixed grill on a rock.
Treat myself. I've been trying to eat a bit better lately so this is a bit of a treat.
So I'm going to get the meats out and go through what I've got.
As you can see here, I've got some veg, I've got some mushrooms,
tomato and onion, got a couple of sausages if they'll fit, some pork loin, some steak,
I think rump and I think a rump of lamb as well. So I think that fire should be hot enough.
So I'm going to get cooking. I think I'll put these
sausages on first. Now they've had a bit of a head start, I'm going to start loading up some
of the other bits. A couple of tomatoes, mushroom, definitely our pork on, the lamb and as it is
quite thick, I'm going to put the steak on too. Got one shot at this. Hopefully it goes well.
That seems to work quite well. Just going to start seasoning everything up. Well what a
beautiful setting for a beautiful dinner. Just dig into this steak first. Oh that's tender.
My sausages which look juicy. Oh this is superb. Right, lamb time. Oh look at that,
juicy and pink in the middle. Nearly losing an onion there. That's gorgeous. Oh yes,
fat on the pork's crisped up nicely. Yolk's runny. That fire was the absolute perfect
temperature. The rock was perfect. Just a bit pink in the middle of the steak. Probably should
have put that on a little bit later but I'm happy. Oh I'm going to carry on with this.
Well that's clean plate. That was lovely. Oh I am full, that was good. I really enjoyed that,
really enjoyed it. Really happy with how it came out as well.
Getting the hang of this rock cooking. So it's bringing a pan to the woods.
Well I hope you guys enjoyed that one. I'm just going to pack up and get out of here now,
maybe before the weather comes in and thank you all for watching. I'll see you on the next one.
Goodbye.
