Oh my God, that is ridiculous.
Airplane. All right, so this is a little bit nuts.
I'm a pretty spontaneous guy, but not usually this spontaneous.
It's 10 45 PM.
I just talked to my buddy Larkin and we booked tickets tomorrow morning for
Cancun. Why did we do that? Why? It's five degrees.
It's five degrees outside, five degrees. No bueno. Let's go to Mexico.
Oh yeah, it looks cold out there. Oh boy. Oh boy. Oh boy.
God damn. It's cold.
All right, here we go.
All right. My bus is here.
Here we go.
One hour until my flight leaves.
This is my last few breaths of cold air.
This is why I wear running shoes to the airport.
I don't think I need to be running anymore, but it just feels good to run.
So I'm going to run.
There is one thing I have not done because I've been in such a rush this
morning. A few moments later. All right. I think I'm good.
I have about 15 minutes to the flight boards.
That's way more time than I usually have. And I'm happy to be here.
I'm happy to be going to Cancun.
And I got to say when Larkin called this morning and said his flight was
canceled. Dude, my flight to Denver got canceled. We are just boarding.
I thought our adventure was over, but he figured it out.
Now they're going to route me through San Fran and then LA and then Cancun.
And we'll just meet up in Mexico somewhere. We don't have any plans.
We don't have a hotel. We have nothing, but it'll all work out. It always does.
Hey mom. How's it going? I made it. My flight's on time.
It's going to take off. I'm looking at the airplane right now.
Jetbridge is freezing. Oh my God.
Snow is gone.
Bye bye. See you. Thank you.
All right.
I'm heading to customs and they don't like cameras there. So see you later.
Check it out. My friends. This is definitely not Colorado anymore,
but the sun is about to set.
I still don't have a hotel and it's high season.
So I need to start looking for a place to stay tonight.
But at least I'm in paradise, right?
I've done this so many times in my life where I just go somewhere and start
walking around looking for hotels.
And I'm always looking for mostly the cheapest hotel.
A few moments later.
I can't believe that I'm here. This thing is,
it's crazy to think that I woke up in a frozen land of Colorado and now I'm in
Mexico and I'm sweating like crazy. Feels so good.
I love how life works out. Sometimes you put a little bit of effort into
something. You got a little bit of luck.
You mix it all together and good things happen.
Now I'm going to get some beans because I love frijoles.
It is still very much Christmas here in Mexico. I kind of like it.
I wasn't ready to be done with Christmas and I get more of it down here.
I'm eating salbutes. I've never even heard of a salbute, but it has nopal,
which is cactus. It's kind of like a tostada. I love it.
You know what? I just had a great idea. Larkin's been traveling all day.
I'm going to get him a nice cold beer.
I have never heard of Tecate titanium, but Larkin's going to be psyched.
I really enjoy these types of moments in life where it's just totally random.
I'm waiting for Larkin in some small Mexican town with a cold beer at midnight.
Two hours later.
We're on our way to some cenotes.
Cenotes are natural swimming holes formed by the collapse of porous limestone
bedrock, which has revealed a secret subterranean world of groundwater pools.
Most cave cenotes have freshwater that has been meticulously filtered by the
earth, making them incredibly clear.
The Mayans loved cenotes because they were a water source in dry times.
The name cenote means sacred well.
Mayans settled villages around these spiritual wells and believed they were a
portal to speak with the gods.
You know what's in this hole right here? A cenote. It's full of water.
I'm going to jump in.
All right. So we met some friendly Germans that are hooking us up with a ride.
Thank you.
All right. Our nice new German friends dropped us off in Playa.
Now our job is to find a hotel because there were no hotels in Puerto Morelos.
Playa is a little bit bigger. We might be have better luck. Thank you.
Hola, que tal? Tienen algo disponible para esta noche?
We got a pool down there. Look at that pool. Oh yeah, baby. Bam!
All right. Check this out. This is why we came to Mexico completely.
Are you excited for tacos? I am so excited for tacos.
Well, look at that smile. We are in heaven right now.
Seriously, the absolute best food in Mexico can be found on the streets.
You don't need to go to the restaurants. You don't need to pay big money.
You go a few streets off the main Quinta Avenida and you've got the best food here.
This is one of my favorite street foods, atol.
It's pretty much just corn and some hot sauce and mayonnaise and it is good.
And we're watching volleyball for some reason.
This is what two dudes do on a Friday in Mexico.
We buy a big one, show them the big one. Show them your big one.
Look how big that beer is. Look how big that beer is.
I had ice cream because I guess I don't drink alcohol anymore.
We can hear the clubs off in the distance thumping. Boom, boom, boom.
This is where we want to be right here.
All right, you ready for adventure time? Woo! Adventure time!
Good morning. So yesterday we had so much fun at this cenote.
We're going to go find another cenote, but first, frijoles.
We are in Colectivo land.
Colectivos are better than taxi cause they're way cheaper and they go more often
than the bus.
Packed in real nice and tight.
All right.
We told the guy to drop us off at the side of the highway and there it is.
That's where we're going. Dos Ojos.
Uh, it's raining. I will take rain any day over the snow, baby.
Check it out, my man. We found it. This is amazing. This is pretty darn cool.
Not only did we find it, but every other tourist here in Cancun found it too.
We are waiting out the storm in a cave.
We are in the perfect spot for a tropical downpour.
There's Larkin. He's going to go pee in the jungle.
Larkin, do you love Mexico? I love Mexico. I love Mexico too. I love it.
Tonight is Sabado Gigante. This is what we do here in Mexico.
We party. We brush our teeth. We read books. We party. Hey Larkin,
what are we doing today? We're going cenote hunting.
This one's pretty cool. It is Sunday here in Mexico,
which means this is the day where everybody goes out to water and holes.
It's a little crowded, but that's all good. We'll share it.
We can share paradise.
The cenote is great because if you just kind of stop and chill,
all the little fishies will come up and start kissing you.
It tickles a whole bunch and they're not really tickling you.
I think they're eating the dead skin off your legs.
People pay a lot of money for this in other countries at a spot,
but right here it's free, baby.
I think we have found our favorite cenote.
The Garden of Eden.
So there you have it my friends, three days in amazing Mexico.
What do you think Larkin? Oh man, this is so cool. What a great idea, Ryan.
Yes sir. You only live once. Sometimes you just gotta go for it.
We just landed in Denver and what are we eating? Beans.
We cannot get enough frijoles. I miss Mexico, Ryan.
