Now, this is Lukla Airport, high in the mountains of Nepal.
This is where a lot of people from around the world
fly into to start their treks.
A lot of people do an Everest to come and land here.
And it's a crazy little airport.
The runway's like 500 meters long.
I've been to a lot of airports around the world,
but none of them, none of them are like the Lukla Airport.
This is the main room as you walk in.
It's cold and chilly.
It's pretty much the same temperature as the outside.
Behind me is the snack bar.
Mm, milk tea's my fave.
I'll show you the bathrooms.
This is the men's bathroom.
Of course, I'm not gonna go into the women's,
but it's spacious.
I don't think there's any toilet paper in here, though.
No, definitely no toilet paper.
No toilet paper in the men's bathroom.
The sink might work, though.
Let's see.
Nope, nope, definitely, nope, sink doesn't work.
That's cool.
Who really needs to wash their hands anyway, you know?
Let's go into the check-in room.
Everybody in here smells really bad
because they've all been trekking for about two weeks.
Nobody's taken a shower.
But, you know, you don't really notice it
when you yourself smell bad, right?
I smell fantastic, I took a shower yesterday,
I don't know about you.
He's lying, nobody takes showers.
The cool thing about this airport
is you can just walk right on outside.
You can't do that in most airports.
And so, when the planes take off and land,
you can stand right here.
The mountains surrounding the airport are,
as you can see, epic.
The reason why we might have some delays today
is because the clouds are really low.
So, we'll see if we go anywhere.
So, the thing about Lukla is everything has to be flown in.
So, when these planes come in,
they unload all sorts of goods,
whatever it's to be, toilet paper,
to beer, to food, everything.
And then it gets hauled into town.
And then all the trekker tourists
get on the airplane and fly away.
And they do this over and over and over all day.
So, that is the seventh flight of the day.
We are number 10.
We're four hours late already.
We're getting word that things might get canceled.
Please, no, we wanna go!
How you guys feeling?
Awesome.
Woo-hoo!
Oh, yeah!
It is a new day.
We're heading back to the airport.
The sun is shining.
There's no clouds.
We're feeling good about our chances.
Namaste.
Namaste!
It's a completely different day.
You can actually see the mountains.
No clouds.
Woo, feeling good.
Feeling good about our chances.
Oh!
We're back in the waiting room, 24 hours later.
Cross your fingers, baby.
My bag is on the scale, my bag is on the scale.
Oh, sorry.
Hey, you wanna dance?
Yeah!
I've got the golden ticket I've made it past security I am one step closer this
room is pretty much the same as the other room but it has a TV
why sit in a freezing cold waiting room when you can go outside and sit in the
so right here is where all the stuff that gets flown in gets organized obviously
and then probably gets packed on the back of porters and sent up the hill
it's pretty incredible all this stuff is going to make its way all the way up to
even up to base camp on the back of some porter these dudes are tough
our airplane over there we're finally flying to Kathmandu
here we go right up close next to the pilot
