Hi. So this one's going to be a little different from my usual videos documenting excursions
through the Oregon wilderness. Okay, so this is Jordan. You may recognize him from the highly
entertaining and informative ALNSM Overland YouTube channel, exploring off-road tracks
in France in his impressive and unique first-gen Forester. Jordan challenged me to create my own
Five Things I Love About My Forester video after he himself had been challenged by another Forester
YouTube channel. You may also know Mitre A in Australia. And if I understand correctly,
before that it was Brucie in West Virginia. I love how this challenge has bounced from continent to
continent and fallen in my lap. So here you go. Five Things I Love About My Forester.
Number five. It's a Subaru. Okay, duh. Yeah, it's a Subaru. Everyone knows that. But that
really means more than just a car brand. I bought my first Subaru almost 19 years ago,
a 1992 Legacy Wagon, and was so impressed by that car that I have driven Subarus ever since,
including a 2007 Outback and now my 2012 Forester. All have proven to be comfortable,
reliable, and capable. These are the cars that I have chosen to transport my children as they are
sure-footed in treacherous winter conditions, getting us through some crazy blizzards on
mountain passes, and have received high ratings in crash tests. 19 years of driving Subarus and
none of them have ever broken down and left us stranded. That means a lot to me. With Subaru
ownership comes the Subaru community, fellow owners with similar experiences for whom a Subaru is not
just transportation. The support, encouragement, and general positive vibes among Subaru owners
also means a lot to me. I have met some truly remarkable people that I am very happy to have
as friends, and I expect there are more to come. Number four. It's not a Jeep. Okay, hold on. Don't
get me wrong here, Jeep guy. Jeeps are, without a doubt, among the best, most capable off-road
vehicles on the planet. If you drive a Jeep, I respect your choice. In fact, a number of the
YouTubers I follow drive Jeeps, including Backroad Exploration roaming around Utah,
Venture Forward roaming around the entire continent, and CJ Adventure Oregon. As you know, I like to
explore the wilderness areas of our public lands via dirt roads. Jeeps are fantastic for that, but
honestly, I really can't afford a Jeep that's as new as my Forester, not to mention keep the gas tank
full or replace those huge tires. My Forester wasn't expensive, gets very reasonable gas mileage,
and the tires don't break the bank, which means I can afford to take more excursions.
Plus, when I'm not on dirt, it's a smooth, quiet, comfortable, and reasonably economical car.
And yeah, there's no question about it, my Forester can't crawl over crazy boulders or plow through
insane mud pits, but I don't really need it to. I just need it to get me up whatever primitive
roads I might encounter as I explore the wilderness. Sure, a Jeep can do that, and do it well,
but I love that I can actually do it too, without needing to actually drive a Jeep.
Number three, it's small. I love the size of this car. Around town, it's so easy to drive. It's nimble,
it's quick, and really easy to park. On the trail, it can squeeze through tight spaces,
and the short wheelbase not only gives me a really respectable breakover angle,
but means that on those dead-end spurs, I can turn around almost anywhere. Being a small,
lightweight car, that also means less gas being burned to get around. Number two, it's big. You
wouldn't believe how much I can haul in this thing. The cargo space is largely adequate for utilitarian
hauling, or for whatever the kids and I need to take a road trip. It easily accommodates all my
gear for photo shoots, and on camping excursions, it becomes both my kitchen and my sleeping quarters.
So the Forester sports an ATV permit for a good reason. It really is an all-terrain vehicle.
That's reason number one that I love my Forester. It goes wherever I point it.
Whatever road I point it down, it just goes. Rutted, pitted, degraded, overgrown, snow, sand,
mud, rock, or yeah, even log piles, it just goes. It lets me get out there and explore these public
lands of ours without worrying about getting where I want to go, or getting home. So there you have it,
five things I love about my Forester. Thank you, Jordan, for sending the challenge my way.
This was a really fun change of pace from my usual excursion videos.
I guess that means it's my turn to pass the torch along to another Forester YouTube channel,
and that would have to be JohnDZAdventuring. He's a kind and hilarious guy who generously
shares his often hard-earned knowledge to help out not only his fellow Subaru enthusiasts,
but anyone interested in overlanding in their crossover, or as John calls it,
crossover landing. And I look forward to one day hitting some Southern California trails with him.
In the meantime, John, how about it? So far we've had an SF, an SG,
an SH. You gonna bring us the SJ perspective on what you love about your Forester?
