Monster estate sale! Yeah, monster!
Two best friends with two very different styles. Laura wants to save treasures from the landfills
and Selena wants all the fancy stuff on the cheap. We want to inspire you to find your own unique
style through secondhand finds. Join us as we hunt yard sales, auctions, and junk stores for
unbelievable vintage finds. The only rule we have is to have fun on The Recycled Life.
That is cool! All right, you ready for a monster estate sale? Let's do this. Yeah,
this is gonna be a good one. Holy cow! This is like I was supposed to point it towards the
sale but you're seeing the reaction. This is gonna be really good. Please use your sanitizer.
Oh, that one's cool. This black one. Yeah, that one's really neat. What about this green one?
Yeah, that's cool. Oh, look at these are like old glass beads. Those are really pretty. Yeah,
pick those up. How's the pricing? A dollar? 50 cents. A dollar? A dollar.
You know what's funny? I'm keeping those for myself because I was looking for brass chandelier
Aries. Really? Yeah. What about this clamper right here? Oh, I like that. Yeah, these are
pretty too. Yeah, they're the Austrian crystal. Ashley would love that big owl. Yeah, she would.
How much is it? How much is the owl? Five dollars. Yeah, I feel like we need to get that for her.
Yeah, that's huge. Yeah, thank you so much. Thank you. I'll get the lamp too. That's fantastic. Is
it pottery? Yeah, it is. That's a great one. 75 cents. And your peacock. That's so cute. Yeah,
that's pretty. And a little ring on it. Yeah. Laura, do you still like these macrame plant
hangers? It depends. That one I do. Yeah, this is a good one. I don't like the synthetic ones.
Yeah, that's a good one for 75 cents. What about these fans? Too shiny. Yeah, too new.
I mean, they're not new, but you know, too shiny. Not crusty though. Oh, look at that
little vanity table behind you. No, no. Oh, but this is fantastic. Oh, just kidding.
Totally thought that was like a courteous jeer. Nope.
Ready for Easter.
Look at this. It's like a shoe horn, but it's a golf club, a brass golf club. That's kind of funny.
I like this, but it has a crack in it. I almost got it, but then I saw that crack
along the end. Yeah, that's a pretty bad one. Oh, it would have been great though.
Oh, look at these. These are little 60s fireplace barbecue matches.
Look at the boxes. Yeah. Let's see if they're all intact inside. Do you think they would still work?
Yeah. Oh, look at it. Yeah. My mom used to have these. Those are awesome. Okay.
The boxes are the coolest part. Can't forget my little turtle. Can I poke that in the bag? Oh,
yeah. We got a bag here. Yeah. What are we doing? Wait, hold up. Is this the first time we've been
putting in our bag? Coming soon. Do you see my goblet? I can bring this. I can leave this at
your house for when we have wine. Your own special. Yeah. What is it? Oh my gosh. I've
sold one of those before. A matching one. Yeah, those are great. It's probably a cream and sugar
set. Yeah. Heck yeah. Yeah. This is a year sale. I'm carrying all your stuff. I'm sorry.
There's a really neat decanter, coffee decanter over here. It's five dollars. Do you think it's
too worn or it's pretty good shape? Yeah, it actually has the warmer underneath. Okay, let's
put it in the pile. Do you want to go look for more junk? She said she'd take us inside to show
me a matching lamp. Thank you. Right there in the corner. I love the mirror. That's an antique.
We always want the things that aren't for sale. That's cool too. How much for this one? I don't
know. Let me ask my sister. Okay, thank you. There's a planter in the kitchen that I love.
Those pulled down. Did you know that? Yeah, so you take the little thing and you pull it down
and you can change the height of them. What's really sad is I've actually bought one before
for a hundred dollars at an estate sale and then they moved and never, I was supposed to come back
the next day to get it because they had to take it down and they moved and I never got it and I
never got my hundred bucks back. Yeah, we bought it for our diner in our kitchen. How about this
little planter? Is that one for sale? Take the whole thing. Oh my gosh. Just take it. Okay. It's
so cute. It looks very like Egyptian. That's kind of fun. See, it looks like my horse. I loved this
estate sale. The family was so nice. Laura and I kept talking about them all day. They were just
so sweet and they even invited us into the house to look at things that weren't out for sale to
the public yet. You guys like doilies and things? She loves them. Me too. I like old rule stuff.
I love that one. I have a brown one that almost matches it.
I'll take that one too. This is all priced. Yeah, we just don't have any more room.
Dude, I bet that's the collector's edition.
Yeah, we'll leave it for someone who knows that stuff. I found some pretty, it says two panels
with fringe and there are birds on them. That looks cool. Looks like the old hand painted silk scarf.
That'll be pretty for fall. Yeah. With sunflowers on it.
Do you think you're going to sell that light fixture eventually or will you leave it with the
house? Whoever buys it will probably take it down. Clean size, freshly laundered, stains or tears.
That sounds like amazing. I have baby blue ones at home and they're awesome because they don't
tangle your hair like a cotton pillowcase. Oh, they're nice and silky smooth. You know,
if you ever find any that are stained you could indigo dye them with me.
Oh, this is too funny. I grew up having these exact same towels. Really? Yeah,
those were our bathroom towels. We walked back into this back craft room that was just loaded
with boxes. Everything was priced so that was super awesome and I just got down to digging.
Digging at estate sales is my favorite thing to do. I actually prefer ones where you can see
there's just like a horde of stuff and stuff under tables. I love to like get down, pull it out,
dig. It's literally a treasure hunt. Isn't that cool? It's so heavy but it's so cool.
Gotta try it on, right? Yeah. Oh yeah, I did look through that one.
I didn't see any scarves. They're like fabric scraps. It's a drinker's friend bar set.
And it's got the pieces in it? Yeah. Oh, wow. It's never been used. That's rad. You want that
for like your retro stuff? Yeah, I'll make you a cocktail. I know, we have more picking to do.
Wow, this is a really good start. All right.
How's that looking? I'm inspecting. It looks pretty but I don't know. I'm not super excited.
You should be excited. Lost little kitten. That's funny. Poor little kitty. Remember these books?
I remember the little kitten with the mittens. Wasn't he naughty? Probably like Toby.
I went into the garage just in case even though it looked mostly like tools and fishing gear.
But look, I found one of these ironwood cactuses and it has a hummingbird on the top. At first I
thought it was broken and that's why it was taped but it's taped because the hummingbird comes out
and it goes in the little flower at the top of the cactus. I've never found one exactly
like this before. Isn't it cute, Selena? It's so cute. Thanks. Let's see if you young kids know
exactly what this is. Oh, whoops, I showed you. It's a mouth harp. My dad used to have one of
these. Have you heard of them? Yeah, that's my impression of them. Can you do it? No. They're
so cool. Can you? No, I've always tried when I was little. I wonder if my dad still has it. Okay,
there's 14, 15, and 20. Thank you. Thank you very much. 25, so there's 100. Okay. I can't believe
you got the whole cart loaded in our first sale of the day. That's always a good day when you start
picking and the first thing you have to do is go straight to the bank to get more money for the ATM
before you even leave the sale. We had good expectations for today but I think it's already
exceeded it. Yeah, I'm thirsty. I'm really thirsty. Do you think this is like a Finland piece because
they do a lot of like Swedish and Finland does a lot of like blue and white pottery but then it has
very Egyptian looking stuff. I can't wait to find out. That's cool. And guess how much it was,
you guys? What? Better than the dollar. It was free. She saw how much I really loved it and I
asked if I could have the plant too and she was just happy that it was going to a good home. There
is a lot of good mid-century and Selena got a beautiful silk scarf. That one's pretty. How old
do you think it is? I think it's probably from the 20s or 30s. It has some really pretty hand-painted
flowers on it. It's got those hand-rolled edges which you know I like. I like it because it's black.
This one was kind of funny because I thought Selena had completely overlooked it when she
did the quick round around the table and I grabbed it put it in my box without even looking and it
turns out why did you pass it up? Because it's 20 bucks. But I got it for 15 and I still feel like
that's a great deal because this one's in really good shape and it's a crossbody which
gotta love our crossbodies. One of the pieces that I'm getting is actually still in the house and
Selena is going to come back and get it for me next week because it's just a few blocks away
from her house but it's one of those really neat mid-century modern pull-down chandeliers and they
look like a little spaceship like very alien. That was the first thing I saw when we walked
inside. I was like oh you're gonna like the spaceship. Super cool. They were so wonderful
here. They took us into the house and let Selena dig through some of the clothing boxes.
You found a really cool belt in there. Did I? Oh yeah the domino belt. Yeah oh I totally forgot
about that. I just like start putting stuff in our little... It's only been 20 minutes but we
already forget what we found. It's like a haze. Yeah junk trunk. That's what we call it. We're junk
junk. Okay I just got home with Laura's UFO lamp and I placed it on the dog bed for safekeeping.
The family was super nice and they had it all ready to pick up for me and it comes with some
vintage dust so that makes it extra cool. But this just goes to show it doesn't hurt to ask you know
when you walk inside and I'm in a state sale and you see a cool light fixture or like I like to do
ask about plants in the garden. A lot of times people are willing to part with them and you don't
know unless you ask right? Trying to film and hold the shelf for you at the same time but I think what
I'm gonna do is put it here and maybe put some pretty vases or candles on it would look really
beautiful with some artwork above it. It's so pretty. The family wasn't sure when we first saw
it if they wanted to part with it and sell it or not and when I came to pick up Laura's lamp they
were like yeah sure we'll sell it to you and especially when they found out that I lived in a
Victorian home they were really excited that I was going to go to our house to stay because
this is a Victorian East Lake piece and they said that it's been in their family for years
and it's probably from the late 1800s and it's really beautiful and unique to be able to find
these with all of the carving on them and nothing is damaged or chipped off. I did wax this with a
Howard stained wax to bring out the luster because it was pretty dry when I first picked it up
and it oiled up beautifully so I can't wait to hang it. I'll be giving you an update soon
on my personal YouTube channel Vintage Bombshell. Selena and I got a lot of great things at the sale
to sell in our online shops for our upcoming sale but it's extra special when we get a piece that we
know is going to be a forever piece in our own homes. This one came with a Christmas cactus
plant so that was even neater and I'll show you all the different designs on this. It's got a
very Egyptian vibe. Those look to be like Egyptian lotus flowers. I've never seen a piece like this
before. There is no stamp on it and I did some online research and wasn't able to find it.
I think I'm going to post a picture of it in a mid-century pottery identification forum group
to see if anybody can give me any help on that but it's a really neat piece. I love the bird and
the lotus flowers and this is something I'm definitely going to keep for a long time to come.
Do you remember this cute hat I scored at the barn sale for only a dollar? It's been the perfect sun
hat for me this summer. I just wore it to the farmer's market yesterday and the fact that it
was only a dollar makes it that much cooler. I honestly didn't find a whole bunch at this estate
sale. It was really fun though but I did find a few cool things for my shop sale so all of these
pretties are going to be up on my website thevintagebombshell.com on August the 7th.
This one is so beautiful. It's an antique silk scarf and it's got those hand rolled edges on it
and this is all hand painted here. This beautiful floral detailing like gold looking peony flowers
and vines. It's so gorgeous. My mom had one like this growing up and I really didn't know how
cool it was until now that I'm older and I wish that my mom still had it. I don't know where it
went but it would look just like this black with hand painted pink roses on it and it's really
pretty and romantic. I think that this is probably from the 20s or 30s. I just have to show you this
because it's so cute. I have never seen a belt like this. This is definitely a retro piece and
it's a domino belt. It's a little chain link belt that's like all handmade with domino pieces.
I think you'd probably want to wear this one like high-waisted like if you had high-waisted jeans
or a little like retro dress to wear this with. It's so dang cute. I also got these two really
beautiful panels. I feel like I've been finding a lot of neat vintage bird things and peacocks
and stuff like that and I'm always keeping an eye out for fringy pieces. I love fringe because it's
so like romantic and I just love that texture. These are really cool. First I thought they were
scarves because they were in like a plastic ziplock bag so I really couldn't tell what they
were but I just saw the print. I was like okay I'm gonna get it you know but when I pulled them out
I saw that they're actually like panels. So I have two of these and I think they are little
curtain panels. I just thought they would be like really sweet if you had like a little
powder room or maybe out of a small kitchen window would look really really pretty
but it's got a really cool botanical motif with flowers and vines and then like
dual opposing birds on it. Really really cool. Thank you so much for subscribing and don't
