Budgies come in a variety of colors.
There are blue budgies, green and yellow, and even white ones.
But did you know that budgies can also be black?
There is a very rare mutation called the black-faced budgie.
A budgie with this mutation will usually have two base colors underneath the black stripes.
Those colors are blue or green.
This is what a baby black-faced, green-based budgie looks like.
And this is what a baby blue-based budgie looks like.
Violet budgies are also quite rare.
They can come in a neon purple color or as a bright violet color.
They also have purple colored cheeks while most base budgie colors have blue cheeks.
Feather duster budgies are a rare mutation that causes their feathers to never stop growing.
They are very weak, can't fly, and unfortunately die within a year of hatching.
This is what a baby feather duster looks like.
You can see that their feathers are longer than a normal baby budgie's feathers.
Japanese helicopter budgies are also a rare mutation,
which causes a change to the direction of their feather growth
and makes the wing feathers look like a helicopter propeller.
Ironically, helicopter budgies will usually have difficulties flying.
Rainbow budgies are also an unusual mutation.
They will usually have a golden head, a violet cyan body, with yellowish wings.
This is Twinsie, a half cider budgie with the rarest mutation of all.
Half of his body is green and the other half is blue.
To this day, when people see Twinsie's photos online, they think it's fake or photoshopped.
Unfortunately, Twinsie is no longer with us, as his owners reported that he died.
This is another half cider budgie.
Her name is Houdini, with half a green side and half a pint side.
Last but not least is the cinnamon budgie, which is a mutation that is also quite rare.
Cinnamon budgies are known for having warm brown wing markings and a pale shade of body.
Thanks for watching!
