Baby Elephant on iMfolozi

Juvenile Elephants are a big favourite among Wildlife ACT volunteers. This confident juvenile is practicing its warning behaviour, which can be characterised by a rapid and sure-footed change in direction and a vigorous shake of the head - causing their big ears to flap in intimidation. This sighting may seem like playful viewing now, but once fully grown, must not be taken lightly. While collecting valuable Elephant data, Wildlife ACT monitors and volunteers know to keep a safe distance and constantly monitor and interpret the herd's behaviour.
