Stampede. Bye, thank you for coming.
What was that?
Billy, what are you doing?
Chew.
Mark here and welcome to the Ten Acre Woods.
Just kidding, there is no snow around as you can see. That footage was actually from last November
but November is not too far off.
So we're going to be heading out to do some feeding.
Sheldon, hi bud. Are you hungry?
Sounds like there's lots of activity in there.
We have put Blackie in.
He's in zone.
Oh, he's dribbling. He's leaking.
So yeah, we have Blackie in there.
She's been acting like she's in heat.
So we want to put her in here because we don't want to breed her this year.
She's really good going into this winter.
Yeah, she's good.
And we had a bunch of rain last night.
A good thing it wasn't below zero because we would have had snow.
Tara's kind of finished up doing the barbecue area.
She put some other trim boards up top.
In the coming weeks, we're going to be putting poly around here.
So we're going to put poly, six mil poly, around to close this off.
And this will be kind of a winter storage area.
All of our vines.
I know, it's beautiful red.
They were beautiful red and now they've withered.
So we had, what was it, minus five with a minus nine wind chill.
That just did everything.
Yeah, so and all of the leaves on the trees are gone.
So it didn't take that long.
We had, from last week, we had quite a few leaves.
And this week, well, not so many.
They all fell.
Inch of rain.
Is that what came down last night?
Yeah, inch of rain.
Yeah, it could have been a couple inches of snow for sure.
Yeah.
The grain bin.
So Tara has framed in the outside of this and put a tarp around it
to keep the snow out from underneath.
And she finished it off with the same type of wood that she used on the barbecue area.
Just to kind of enclose that in.
I hear some nang.
Oh, you can smell those boys.
They are putting off the scents.
And there's Billy rubbing on Carl.
Feeding time.
That building there.
We're going to get to that.
So Tara just needs to pick up some more wood for that.
And we just pick up that locally here at our local hardware store.
You guys want some hay?
Yes?
You want hay?
Mommy's going to get you some hay.
Oh yeah, so this is the boundary blade.
So we had this sent to us from, I think it came from Ireland.
So boundary blade doesn't come with this, right?
So you can test the fence.
Yeah.
And do not do what the photo says.
Yeah.
It says to stick the wire in there to test it.
But if you notice...
That's the blade.
And you will get shocked yourself.
So do not follow the instructions on the package.
We're going to contact them and just let them know.
You just need to hold it underneath.
Yeah, right where that little lightning bolt is.
No matter which way you hold it.
We thought we went through the hole.
Oh, maybe it's left-handed, but no.
Then your fingers are touching the blade.
Nope.
So it's just that little lightning bolt.
And you just have to put it up.
You know, you push the button in and you bring it up to it.
So we can see it's 6,000 volts, which is about...
Oh, it jumped to eight.
Yeah, it's two lines on how close you get.
Six to eight.
So the line's good.
So they sent this to us to test out.
Yeah.
And then it has a blade on it.
So Tara's got one in here and one in the barn.
So a nice handy little tool.
I think they sent a link.
So I'll have to put a link in the description if you're interested in that.
I used to have the bale cutters.
And I was finding I was going through way too many of them.
You know, you come out quickly, you grab it.
And then, of course, you're grabbing hay at the same time you're grabbing the bale.
And it just wore the blade so much.
So, oh, let's see.
I have a nice knife out here and test fence at the same time.
Yeah, and I'll have to go around and do a walk of the fencing
and see what everything looks like.
All right, here we go.
Feeding time.
So it's a heavy bale.
We do separate it out just because they get hangry.
Especially Billy there.
Billy likes to hog a pile of hay.
Just do a rake in here before.
Yeah.
These guys, all four of these guys go through about a bale a day.
Well, and then it gets up to close to two bales in the winter, isn't it?
Bale and a half.
Yeah.
I mean, some people ask how much they...
So a bale here now is worth about 10 bucks.
So five animals, 10 bucks a day.
And larger animals.
10, 15 bucks a day.
When we had the large horses, they were definitely two bales a day.
Yeah.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah.
Storm and Big Joe.
Yeah.
Yeah, they went through a lot.
Hi, Edgar.
So Edgar and Bun Bun are on this side.
There is a hole to the outside, but I'm not worried about Edgar and Bun Bun.
They're too big to get out of the hole.
So I've made them a little cubby there for winter.
And they'll chew it and make a nice little hole there.
Yeah, so we've got those two rabbits.
And then we've got...
There's three over here.
Sid and then the two newbies that came in.
Now you can kind of see underneath there one of the newbies.
Yeah.
So we've got the five rabbits currently.
Nothing but roosters in there.
So Tara was out...
Yes, was that yesterday?
Yesterday.
Yesterday, I did a lot of little things.
And put down all of the poly.
It was rolled up to about this point here just to allow air movement.
Oh, sorry.
Yeah, on this side.
I never got to that side.
So we've closed that in getting ready for winter.
And this is where all the ducks and the geese will go.
Yeah, once it gets cold.
It's nice in here, right?
Like it stays nice.
No, it is nice.
Yeah, even in the middle of winter, because you get the sun, it always feels sunny.
Like even on just a bright day, it feels sunny in here and it stays warmer.
When the concern is with the Muscovy duck.
So the Muscovy ducks especially cannot...
There's one.
One out there.
They cannot be in the cold, in the cold weather.
Foundry blade.
Yeah, she's got her second one in here.
So they sent us two of them, so it's nice.
And seems to work well.
Got them hanging in her spots.
All right, so everybody's lined up out here.
That looks like...
Is that Leo?
Yeah, that's Leo there.
He doesn't come in.
And I can hear lots of chirping in the back.
Oh, it sounds like Tiana gave them water.
No.
Oh, maybe not.
Hi, kids.
They love their water.
So these are the ones that we found hatched out.
You found them, right?
And they were abandoned.
Some mom hatched them out and then left them.
So they're a...
We figured they're a mix Cayuga, maybe Rowan Cross.
Well, no, they're Cayuga.
Yeah.
Harlequin, Harlequin.
We think they're Rowan.
Rowan or Anko.
Yeah.
Mixture.
There we go.
This is actually a chicken feeder, but it works really well for ducks and ducklings
because they don't get in the water like ducks like to do.
All right, so we have started the winter regiment of peas.
So we soak our peas because they are tough to digest.
If they're not soaked.
And it's fun.
So it's a good, good...
Here, let's see.
Let's have a look in there.
You see them sprouting?
Oh, yeah.
In the winter, like right now, you'll have a lot less dandelions and ducks really need the
higher niacin.
Like dandelions are healthy, right?
So in the winter, if you do your peas, they have niacin as well.
Hang on, get out of the way.
Yeah, so like I was saying, they have to be soaked because it softens them.
It will sprout them.
And they're just easier to digest, both peas and lentils.
One flew out this way.
If somebody saw it.
So Tara will soak it.
She'll have about, what, 24 hours?
Yeah, 24 hours.
That one was a little longer because I've used it for a couple of days.
Well, yeah, and it started sprouting.
Yeah.
We had a fall supper at our community club and there was some leftover lettuce.
So we grabbed that, give that to the birds.
I swear it's more of a game for them.
A game?
They just like to grab it and run around with it.
Yeah.
So I guess if we're touching base on the feed like we did with the horses, like
these guys will go through two scoops of wheat, barley, oats, the peas and the lettuce.
They'll go through that every day.
And once we get into winter, we start giving them some other, some fishmeal.
If we have some kelp, oyster shells.
And I'll fill each of these with something different.
It just gives them choices.
The kelp is a higher protein, like plant.
It's a plant, but you know, high protein.
So like a super green, right?
And then their barley won't go in here.
It'll go in there.
Then oyster shells to help them digest because it'll just be a blanket of snow outside.
And then they get grit.
So you'll see it.
Once winter comes, you'll see all the little.
All right.
So Tara is going to get Leo and Edward.
Okay.
No, wait until the sheep.
Yeah, but the alpaca are going to go too.
Nope.
They come back.
Okay.
I think we're good.
There we go.
It's all about timing.
Come on in.
She wasn't coming in lately.
She's contemplating.
She's like, well, something's going on out there.
Paula, you coming in?
No.
She says, oh, they're feeding out there.
They're just grains.
Decisions.
I think it's because she's been having some arguments with Juanita.
All right.
Oh, I saw you, you little mouse.
Oh yeah.
This is the time of year when mice start coming in.
Tara had a mouse trap on the counter over here.
And it's a little smart mouse.
He, she goes and sets off the trap, but doesn't get caught.
Well, don't, don't.
I am good at what I mean.
I have caught about 30 in here.
So it came in in that hay and through the chicken doors.
Oh yeah.
So, but there's one left and he, every once in a while, you catch a glimpse of him running
around and the traps are all set.
Look, drive through.
Wait, what is it?
She doesn't want to come in, but she will eat.
Well, I'd like to get her to eat because she, she is our oldest.
Is she?
Yeah.
Well, her and Chansey.
Well, but when they, when the, uh, sheer like body condition, you know, how they are,
she said, she's old.
And I mean, how long have we had them?
Yeah, we've had them a few years.
Don't spit.
She's a little, yeah.
She's got that look too.
Always arguing.
Do you want the carrot?
He says, I just want to get away from these crazy.
No, I think they're done.
All right.
We done.
Stampede.
Bye.
Thank you for coming.
What was that?
See you later.
We'll need this.
You ate it all.
Hope you enjoyed your stay and your meal.
We know the routine.
We get the hay after we get our grains or our feed.
I know you want yours too.
Candy.
Look at it.
Look how much haze in here.
Yeah.
We have put, uh, in the pig pen.
We put a bunch of hay in here.
So there's a lot of hay.
And they're still messed out there.
Were they?
Yeah.
It looks like they, uh, looks like there is the remnants of a nest down here.
That's a Pedro.
Yeah.
They do this whole neck noodle thing.
Hi, Pedro.
Hey, finish chewing that one.
I can fit four.
She likes to have multiple in her mouth.
She says, just keep feeding them to me like a vending machine.
She's just got, she's chewing one and then tossing the other one around in her mouth.
It's just rolling around.
Cheek storage.
What are you, a chipmunk?
And then these guys out here, all of these guys will get a bale, uh, a day.
But as you can see, they have lots left over.
Yeah.
Wow.
They like the stuff, the fresh stuff.
Chew.
Get a close up on that.
Can you hear that?
Oh yeah.
Hi, Java.
No, we got to share.
We got a lot of water.
Yeah.
It came down really fast and really hard late last night.
What's that, George?
Oh no, that's not George.
I see a tail of the bad willow.
That is a willow.
Oh, here comes everybody else.
Why won't you take, Pedro's eating them.
Yeah.
He doesn't want to eat them out of your hand.
He's suspicious of it.
He took a few from my hand.
Turbo.
Aw, Turbo.
Oh, you got pooped on.
So never try to take off a wet poop.
Yeah.
Gotta wait till it dries.
Let it dry.
Hi, Fernando.
Fernando.
Very vocal as usual.
Tinker.
Oh, it's sunny out.
Oh, it is beautiful.
You can feel that heat.
So in the coming weeks, we are probably either next weekend late or the weekend after.
We're going to put six mil poly across here, seal this in.
And the sun, this is the south.
So the sun comes in and actually takes the chill off of the barn in here.
So it works out really well.
So that's going to happen.
The pond, we got to pull the pump out of the pond.
And then like last year, we'll probably close off access around here because we don't want
the larger animals to go over in the pond area as the ice is freezing.
Okay.
Who wants some carrots?
Billy and Carl.
Here.
Oh, well, yeah.
Okay.
Watch the fingers.
Okay.
A little more aggressive than I anticipated.
Okay.
You're right up.
We can't see you here.
Okay.
I was going to do some hand feeding, but I think I may just have to toss them out here.
There we go.
Here.
Let's give one to Daisy here.
Daisy.
Here.
Oh, what?
Okay.
Here.
You want?
Can you reach it?
Can you?
Come on.
You can get it.
There you go.
Here, Daisy.
All right, Daisy.
Come here.
No, Billy.
Billy, right here.
Hey, come here.
Where are you?
Daisy.
Here.
You hold it.
All right.
Let's check out this chaos.
I didn't think it was going to be so much of a chaos.
I threw them on the ground already, but apparently they already ate.
Daisy going to have one?
Yes.
Okay.
Carl.
Billy.
You're a goat and she is a pony.
Doesn't work that way, buddy.
You're goofy.
Oh, Billy.
Billy loves Daisy.
Daisy, she doesn't love Billy.
She just finds him annoying.
So the garden is pretty much done.
There's a little bit of lettuce in there.
There are some beets that have to be pulled out.
And I believe there's also some potatoes in there as well.
So we'll pull the rest of that.
So this is Thanksgiving weekend.
So harvest is mostly in.
And Thanksgiving, of course, in Canada.
The U.S. has it in November.
But by then we will have snow everywhere.
I've also got to close up the pool and put that cover on it.
So that's something to do this weekend.
What I did do is my vibe here.
I've had a small leak in it.
So I had to replace the radiator in there.
So I did that yesterday.
I had just a small leak over the past summer
and I've been meaning to put it in
and finally swapped it out and got that in there.
And then in the shelter there, we have the Kubota
which I've got to do my winter maintenance on
and get that oil changed.
A few things left to do.
Tara is heading into the garden, it looks.
What are we doing?
I need my sunflower seeds there.
Oh, the sunflower seeds.
Yes.
Those are those special sunflower seeds, aren't they?
Yeah.
Here are dogs.
And last time I think we saw Toby,
he had his cone on.
He's doing much better now.
Toby, show us your eye.
Oh, look at that eye.
It looks so good.
He had a growth on the inside of his eyelid, his top eyelid.
And Maggie.
Yes.
How's Maggie, girl?
Yeah.
And Atlas.
Hey, bud.
Yes.
What are you doing, buddy?
So Atlas is a Bernese Mountain dog
and the other two are West Highland.
Well, hi, Coda.
How are you doing, buddy?
So if you don't know already,
we have multiple black cats, six of them.
Now this here is Lucifer.
That's Coda.
And we have...
Hi, Nara.
And that is her son, Lucifer.
Ria is around here somewhere, but I'm not sure where she is.
And then, of course, Tia is around as well.
Here's Nix.
Nix is hanging out underneath in the sunbeam.
So Tara's just kind of getting things in order here.
I guess you wanted to collect the seeds, right?
Yes.
Because these are a special type of sun...
One seed.
It was so beautiful.
So what type of sunflower is this?
Some kind of fire sunflower.
Yeah.
You don't know?
Well, I don't know.
If you want it.
I think you did mention it.
This one's got lots of...
The bigger ones have got lots of the...
Yeah, it's red flame or...
I might have the package still, but I doubt it.
Tomatoes.
So they are just in here, all ripenings.
We pulled all those out while Tara pulled them out.
Did you help, Tiana?
Yep.
I picked all the tomatoes.
Okay.
Mom picked the carrots.
Oh, okay.
So there we go.
25 meals of carrots.
Oh, right.
And you vacuum sealed them too.
She had the vacuum sealer out here.
And we've got a whole bunch in the freezer.
So there we go.
She blanched them and vacuum sealed them in.
They're red and yellow.
So you can kind of see what the coloring is of them.
But what's nice is like...
So, but there was like...
This is off one plant.
So there's multiple flowers, which is nice.
And it was going up until the frost the other day.
So I'll harvest the seeds and plant them again next year.
But also have seeds for...
Wow, so that's a little bugged.
For trading.
And then you had some lemongrass this morning.
So you would put that in.
Yeah.
First year I grew lemongrass.
Oh, it smells so good.
Yeah.
So cut that down.
I've harvested the oregano.
The catnip, we kind of harvested the last of it.
Carrot tops.
And then the rest of the marshmallow.
It's kind of growing just a little bit now.
So the cats will still have fresh until it dies.
It doesn't mind the cold.
It didn't freeze.
So Tara's wall of herbs and natural remedies.
Tiana likes to drink catnip.
And what is it?
Strawberry?
Raspberry.
Raspberry leaf tea.
So putting that in.
How many seeds I'm going to have?
You know what?
Six seeds came in the pack.
Six seeds.
And these three definitely will have seeds in them.
So as I mentioned, it's Canadian Thanksgiving weekend.
We actually had our celebrations last weekend.
Just because people were going to be busy this weekend.
So we figured we'd plan it a week in advance.
So all our fellow Canadians, I wish you a happy Thanksgiving.
I hope your harvest is bountiful.
And from all of us here at the 10 Acre Woods, thank you for watching.
And we'll see you in the next video.
Bye-bye.
