Hi Everyone,
Welcome back.
If you are new, welcome.
In this episode, we are visiting the house of a 17th century Edo Merchant; The Kikuya.
Located in the picturesque seaside castle town of Hagi in Yamaguchi prefecture, the Kikuya house is one of Japan's largest and finest examples of a traditional Machiya built in Shoinzukuri style.
As the official merchant to the Choshu Han, the Kikuya played a vital role in the construction of the city, and the residence was occasionally used to officially receive dignitaries travelling on behalf of the Shogunate.
