US And Taiwan Work Together Do Defend Religious Freedom

Following U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's visit to Taiwan, Nury Turkel, the chair of the United States Commission on International Religious Freedom, has arrived on the island and is set to participate in the events held in defense of religious freedom. He will deliver a speech calling the world's attention to the genocide that is currently happening to the Uyghurs in the Xinjiang province of China. In June, Turkel was elected to be the chair of the International Commission on Religious Freedom. The Commission on Religious Freedom is an independent U.S. federal commission. Its main function is to observe situations concerning religious freedom around the world and make policy recommendations to the U.S. President, State Department, and Congress. In its annual report published in April, China remained a country of particular concern for systemic, ongoing, and egregious violations of religious freedom. This is the 23rd consecutive year China has been on the list. Turkel will be in Taiwan for a week, according to Radio Free Asia. On Tuesday, he will join the President of Taiwan's Legislative Assembly, Yoshihide Suga, to participate in the second Indo-Pacific civil society dialogue hosted by Taiwan's Democracy Fund. At that time, Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen will also deliver a pre-recorded speech.
