Johann Friedrich Korb
(1710 - Diessenhofen?, 1756)
German organist, composer and Praeceptor active in Diessenhofen. His dates of birth and death are unknown. However, it can be assumed that Korb came to Diessenhofen from southern Germany and was probably looking for a new work place in that area after moving away. No employment or dismissal document survives either. Only the births and baptisms of his children are noted in the Catholic church register: 1751 Johannes Fridericus, 1753 Maria Judith and 1755 Franciscus Xavierus. Contacts must have existed with the nearby monastery of St. Katherinental, since two of the four choral works by Korb are dedicated to the choir of St. Katherinental. Although very little is known about Korb, he must have been a musical personality who clearly surpassed the status of a "rural little master". In 1756 the well-known publishing house of J.U. Haffner in Nuremberg published a print with works by Johann Friedrich Korb: "Musicalische Gemüths-Ergötzung; bestehend in VI. Clavier-Parthien". The surviving works show Korb as a composer who was able to write formally balanced, artistic and imaginative compositions in the early classical style, both for keyboard instruments and for larger ensembles. #ClassicalMusic
