Lyric:
Now on the first day of the week
while it was still dark,
Mar-y of Mag-da-lene,
Mar-y the moth-er of James,
And Sa-lo-me went to the tomb,
And saw that the stone had been re-moved from the door.
Then They ran and came to Si-mon Pe-ter,
And to the oth-er dis-ci-ple,
whom Je-sus loved, And said to them,
“They have tak-en a-way the Lord from the tomb,
And we know not where they have laid Him.”
Pe-ter there-fore went out, and the oth-er dis-ci-ple,
And were go-ing to the tomb.
The oth-er dis-ci-ple out-ran Pe-ter,
And came to the tomb first.
And he, stoop-ing down and look-ing in,
Saw the lin-en cloths ly-ing there;
Yet he did not go in.
Then be-hind him came Si-mon Pe-ter.
And went in-to the tomb;
And he saw the lin-en cloths ly-ing there,
And the nap-kin that had been a-round His head,
Not ly-ing with the lin-en cloths,
But fold-ed to-geth-er
in a place by it-self.
Then the o-ther dis-ci-ple, who got there first, al-so went in.
And he saw and be-lieved.
For as yet they did not know the Scrip-ture,
That Je-sus must rise a-gain from the dead.
Then the dis-ci-ples went a-way a-gain to their own homes.
But Mar-y stood out-side by the tomb weep-ing,
And as she wept she stooped down and looked in-to the tomb.
And she saw two an-gels in white sit-ting,
One at the head and the oth-er at the feet,
Where the bod-y of Je-sus had lain.
Then they said to her, “Wo-man, why are you weep-ing?”
She said to them, “Be-cause they have tak-en a-way my Lord,
And I do not know where they have laid Him.”
Now when she had said this, she turned a-round
And saw Je-sus stand-ing there,
But knew not it was Je-sus.
Je-sus said to her,
“Wo-man, why are you weep-ing?
Whom do you seek?
She, sup-pos-ing Him to be the gar-den-er, Said to Him,
“Sir, if You have car-ried Him a-way,
Tell me where You have laid Him,
And I will take Him a-way.”
Je-sus said to her, “Mar-y!”
She turned and said to Je-sus, “Rab-bo-ni!”
Je-sus said, “Cling not to Me,
For I have not yet as-cend-ed to My Fa-ther;
But go to My breth-ren and say to them,
‘I am as-cend-ing to My Fa-ther.
He's your Fa-ther al-so,
And to My God and he's your God al-so.”
Mar-y Mag-da-lene came and said to the dis-ci-ples that
She had seen the Lord,
And that He had spo-ken these things to her.
