Lyric:
When Je-sus had spo-ken these words,
He went out with His dis-ci-ples
O-ver the Brook Kid-ron,
To a place where there was a grove,
Which He and His dis-ci-ples en-tered.
Ju-das, who be-trayed Him, al-so knew 'bout the place;
For Je-sus of-ten met there with His dis-ci-ples.
Then Ju-das, hav-ing re-ceived
A de-tach-ment of troops, and of-fi-cers
From the chief priests and Phar-i-sees,
Came there with lan-terns, torch-es, and weap-ons.
Now His be-tray-er had giv-en them a sig-nal, say-ing,
“Whom-ev-er I kiss, He is the One;
Hold Him fast.”
Go-ing at once to Je-sus, Ju-das said,
“Greet-ings, Rab-bi!” and he kissed Je-sus.
Je-sus there-fore, know-ing All things that would come up-on Him,
Went for-ward and said to them,
“Whom do you seek?”
They an-swered and said,
“Je-sus of Naz-a-reth.”
Je-sus said, “I am He.”
Ju-das, who be-trayed Him,
Was al-so stand-ing there with them.
As soon as He said to them, “I am He,”
They drew back-ward and fell to the ground.
Then He asked them a-gain,
“Whom do you seek?”
And they said, “Je-sus of Naz-a-reth.”
Je-sus an-swered,
“I have told you that I am He.
If you are look-ing for Me,
Then let these men go their way,”
That the say-ing might be ful-filled which He spoke,
“Of those whom You gave Me
I have lost none of them.”
Then Si-mon Pe-ter, hav-ing a sword,
Drew it and struck
The ser-vant of the high priest,
And cut off his right ear.
The ser-vant’s name was Mal-chus.
Then Je-sus com-mand-ed Pe-ter,
“Put your sword in-to the sheath.
Shall I not drink the cup
My Fa-ther has giv-en Me?”
Then the de-tach-ment of troops
And the cap-tain and the of-fi-cers of the Jews.
Ar-rest-ed Je-sus and bound Him.
And brought him first to An-nas,
Who was the fa-ther-in-law of Cai-a-phas,
The high priest that same year.
Cai-a-phas was the one who had
Ad-vised the Jew-ish lead-ers that
It was ex-pe-di-ent that one man
Should die for the peo-ple.
