What if La La Land didn’t have to end that way?
Everything I Ever Wanted asks the same painful question — dreams or love? — but gives us a very different answer.
💔 Two young people chasing huge dreams
🎸 A musician finally gets his big break
✍️ A playwright refuses to sacrifice what matters most
🏠 And when success pulls them away… they choose to come back
✨ Because maybe getting “everything you ever wanted” means knowing what you don’t want to lose
So which ending would you choose?
A La La Land ending… or an Everything I Ever Wanted ending? 👀

Ten years ago, La La Land broke our hearts.
Two people fell in love, both had big dreams.
In the end, they got everything they wanted, except each other.
And last month, La La Land returned to theaters for its 10th anniversary.
So yes, that heartbreak is fresh again.
But today, I want to show you a different ending.
It comes from a 2025 movie called Everything I Ever Wanted.
Two young people, two big dreams, the same hard choice.
But this time, they find what they really want, and they turn back before it's too late.
So who are these two people?
Aaron Gray is a young musician with talent, ambition, and no big break.
He keeps playing, keeps trying, but his career is going nowhere.
Natalie Freeman is a young playwright.
And unlike Aaron, her big break has finally arrived.
But she can't enjoy it.
She survived a terrible accident, and the guilt still follows her.
So Aaron is trying to move forward.
Natalie is trying to stop looking back.
Then they meet.
There's a spark.
And slowly, their lives start to change.
Film critic Amanda Mazzillo called it a coming-of-age story about what we're willing
to sacrifice for success.
She wasn't sold on every romantic moment, but she said the movie really shines when
it's about friendship and family.
And honestly, that's the heart of it.
Because this story may look like it's about two young people chasing their dreams,
but underneath, it's really about the people they don't want to lose along the way.
And here's where the story gets even cuter.
Aaron is played by Sensha Carlson.
He was just 22 years old, and this was his first feature film.
Sensha grew up in a small town in California.
As a kid, he danced at the farmer's market and performed at the county fair.
Then came Hollywood, four years of acting, auditions, and chasing the dream.
And this July, he went home.
He made it to the headline of the California Mid-State Fair, the same fair where he once
performed as a little kid.
He told his hometown paper, he said, everything comes back to my hometown for me.
A young actor chasing the big dream, but still knowing where home is.
Remember that.
And let's go back to La La Land for a second.
The director once said, this wouldn't be an honest movie if every dream came true.
So in his story, Sebastian goes on tour.
The career takes off.
The relationship slowly slips away.
Everything I Ever Wanted starts with a similar choice, but takes it somewhere else.
First, Natalie.
She finally gets her big break.
But there's a catch.
They want her to change her play.
The problem is, that play isn't just a script.
It holds memories of her parents.
Good ones, painful ones, all of them.
Changing it would be like cutting people out of a family photo because someone thinks the
picture would sell better without them.
So Natalie says no.
She could make the story cleaner, easier to sell, and maybe even more successful.
But then, it wouldn't really be hers anymore.
Some things are worth more than the dream.
For Natalie, honoring her parents is one of them.
Now let's talk about Aaron.
He finally gets what every young musician prays for.
He goes on tour.
Crowds, lights, music.
The dream is happening.
And then he comes home.
For his father and for Natalie.
That's where this story turns away from La La Land.
Sebastian's road takes him further from the person he loves.
Aaron's road brings him back.
Just like Sunshine Carlson, the actor himself, he also left home to chase a big dream.
And years later, he came back to perform at the same hometown fair where he started as a kid.
I guess, like the imitating art, just a little.
Here's how I think about it.
A kite can fly high because someone is holding the string.
Cut the string, and it simply just gets lost.
Aaron knows who is holding his string.
And this isn't just a movie idea.
Let's talk about Chris Hemsworth.
Back in 2015, at the height of his Marvel fame,
he and his wife were living in Los Angeles with their young children.
But they were not happy there.
So they packed up.
They moved the whole family back to his home country, Australia.
To a big farm with horses and plenty of room for the kids to run.
Earlier this year on a podcast, Chris called that move the greatest decision he's ever made.
And here's the part I love.
His career didn't disappear.
He kept making huge movies.
He just changed what came first.
When he got his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2024, he gave a shout out to his wife.
He said, she put aside her own dreams in order to support mine.
That's not a man who gave up on success.
That's a man who knows what success is for.
The movie isn't telling you to give up your dream.
It's asking something harder.
What if getting everything you want means losing the people you love?
Arya and Natalie turn back before that happens.
Maybe you've faced a moment just like that before.
And maybe, looking back, you still wonder if the price was worth it.
If you could live that moment again, would you do anything differently?
A La La Land ending?
Or an Everything I Ever Wanted one?
