Hello, my little ones. I'm Luna, and this is my friend, Twinkle.
There you are, all tucked in,
warm and soft. I'm so glad you are here with me tonight.
How was your day today, little one?
It's all finished now. There's nothing left to carry.
Have you ever tried and tried at something
Slowly, patiently, a little at a time
Even when it felt far away
And found that you don't have to rush
or push or be the strongest
You only have to keep going,
gently, in your own quiet way
There's a beautiful old story about that from ancient China
Come along with me to a wide-flowing
river, resting warm on the soft reed
at the edge of a wide-flowing river.
In ancient China, long ago, the water moves by,
slow and silver and strong.
Green mountains rise soft in the distance.
The evening light lies gold upon the water.
In that great river, lived many fish, and among them
was one small carp, a gentle golden fish,
no grander than the rest, but with a soft and patient heart.
Now, the fish of the river told an old, old story.
They said that far, far to the hills, high up where
the water came down from the mountains,
was a place called the Dragon
It was said that any carp who could make their way
all the long way up the river
and gently leap the gate
transformed into a great graceful dragon.
and rise up to, many fish laughed
at the old story and said,
Far too far, far too hard, why try?
And they stayed where they were, in the easy, low water.
Something soft and sure in her heart, she said.
I should like to try, not to be grand,
only to see how far a patient heart can go.
And so, one soft morning, the little carp began to swim up the river.
She did not rush, she did not strain.
She simply swam, gently and steadily,
a little at a time.
The slow wind
grew stronger.
She did not fight it.
In a panic,
she rested in the quiet behind the stones,
gathered herself, calm, softly.
She swam on again,
gently, patiently.
It was how the little girl journeyed
off the low green meadows,
Where the willows
trade their soft
evening light,
the river narrowed,
gentle somehow,
for a current can
carry you further,
swift as rushing,
and at last,
after many soft
and patient days,
a little golden
carp, a dragon gate
was a high
and lovely place.
where the river, in a long silver fall,
evening light, a dragon gate,
the very top of a long,
gentle journey,
rested a while at the foot of the falls,
gathering herself one last gentle time.
Softly, surely, with all the patient strength
of a whole long journey, she rose up through the
shining water, and slept.
It was not a hard relief,
or a frightening one,
for itself and her sky
reached down and carried her over the top
of the dragon gate, rewarding class to a patient
and gentle heart.
She rose into the soft evening air of the dragon gate.
Gentle change came over
the little carp.
Her golden scales began
to shimmer as more fins shoved.
Her body grew long
and lovely, flowing gently
through the air like a ribbon,
soft whiskers,
then kind dragon, gentle,
graceful, benevolent
dragon of the sky.
She rose soft and serene,
cloud,
not because she was the
strongest or the swiftest.
She had a patient, gentle heart,
never gave up, hurry. You don't
have to. You don't have
to be the strongest or the fastest.
Patient keeps going softly in its
quiet time.
Push you further than you could all
the way to the star.
That's the one for tonight,
my little ones. You did enough today.
You were enough today. And there's all the time in the
to rest now. You are exactly
where you belong.
Sleep soft. I'll see you
in another beautiful story.
You
rest.
your
dream.
Your
sleep.
