The ninth president of the United States, William Henry Harrison holds the unfortunate record of serving the shortest term of office, dying just one month into his presidency. The war hero rode his military prowess into Congress and eventually to the Whig presidential nomination, becoming the oldest president to date at 68 (and the oldest for many years thereafter). After giving the longest inaugural speech in history, he died from a serious respiratory infection, which he may have caught at the inauguration, making him the first president to die in office.
