ExclusiveIdentifying one’s temperament can highlight personality, strengths, and virtues
Every human being’s personality is unique, an intangible part of his immortal soul which is shaped by his experience on earth. However, since antiquity, physicians and philosophers alike have identified certain basic temperaments into which everyone falls to some degree. These four temperaments are choleric, melancholic, sanguine, and phlegmatic. While some people primarily exhibit one temperament, many of us are a mix of two or more types.
The philosophy, study, and application of temperaments has been promoted in recent years by Art and Laraine Bennett. This Catholic couple has merged their faith with their professions as a marriage and family therapist and a freelance writer to encourage other parents. In lectures, blog posts, videos, books, and even games, the Bennetts teach families how to use temperaments to help their children develop their strengths and grow in virtue.
