US, Russian Officials Meet on Ending Ukraine War; Northeast Braces for ‘Life-Threatening Cold’

Senior American and Russian officials, including the countries’ top diplomats, are holding talks on negotiating an end to the war in Ukraine. Secretary of State Marco Rubio arrived in the Saudi capital Riyadh on Monday on a previously planned trip. U.S. National Security Adviser Mike Waltz and Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff, who were set to arrive later on Monday, will join him at the talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

Harsh weather is moving west and a polar vortex is expected to grip the Rockies and the northern Plains after winter storms pummeled the eastern United States over the weekend, killing at least 10 people. The National Weather Service is warning of “life-threatening cold” into Tuesday.
