MILAN – A family on their way home Sunday night found a structure on Academy Hill Road in the Town of Milan on fire.
Firefighters were already on scene when the structure fire became a three-alarm blaze, bringing crews from several departments in Dutchess and Columbia counties.
One firefighter was transported to the hospital in stable condition and a second was treated at the scene for a minor injury. Officials did not disclose the nature of the hospitalized first responder’s injury.
The family dog perished in the fire.
The Dutchess County Fire Investigation Division is investigating the cause of the fire, but it does not appear suspicious.
Milan Fire Chief Kurt Mizgier said the original part of the house dated back to the 1800s.
