Local business owner Alex Sweet and his family helped bring the spooky season energy to Lunenburg High School on Saturday, Oct. 24. Several fellow local small businesses, organizations, and staff from the Lunenburg Public Library joined them for the program named Trunk or Sweet’s, which drew hundreds of goblins of all ages.

Sweet, owner of Sweet’s Pest Control, held the event after hearing that the town’s annual Trunk or Treat event had been cancelled.

“We knew we wanted to do something to keep the tradition alive,” said Sweet. “As local business owners, we believe being part of a community means more than just providing services. It means showing up, giving back, and creating memories for the families who support us year after year.”

Over in Lancaster the following day another large crowd gathered for the annual Halloween in the Green event that featured dancing witches, a DJ and magician, games and activities, touch-a-truck and trunk-or-treating, and more.

People were invited to vote for their favorite scarecrow for this year’s contest at the Oct. 25 event, with event organizer Lancaster Recreation Department announcing on social media that Mr. Drake Maye took first place, Your Friendly Neighborhood Scarecrow second, and Godzilla came in third.
