TOWNSEND — The Townsend VFW and American Legion posts, and their auxiliaries with DAV Chapter 122, will join together to honor all veterans, including those currently serving in the military, those who served in previous generations, and those who made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our country.
A Veterans Day ceremony will be held Wednesday, Nov.11, beginning at 11 a.m. at the VFW Park Monument in West Townsend, organized by Townsend VFW Post No. 6538 and its Auxiliary, American Legion Post No. 199 and its Auxiliary, and the local DAV Chapter.
The public is cordially invited to attend and show their appreciation for the men and women who have served and continue to serve our country. Parents are especially encouraged to bring their children so they can learn about the significance of Veterans Day and the sacrifices made to protect our nation’s freedom.
Light refreshments will be served following the ceremony at the VFW Function Hall, located at 491 Main St. in West Townsend.
A Flag Retirement Ceremony will also take place at approximately noon outside the VFW Post Home, at the fire pit recently constructed as an Eagle Scout project specifically for the respectful retirement of flags.
Those who have never witnessed the proper way to retire tattered, torn or faded American flags are encouraged to attend this meaningful ceremony.
Area residents are encouraged to come out and participate in these special Veterans Day observances.
