WORCESTER — A spooky season tradition is coming to the city.

The Hanover Theatre Repertory (THT Rep) is bringing back its “Edgar Allen Poe Double Header” to the BrickBox Theater at the Jean McDonough Arts Center Oct. 28 through Nov. 1. Created and performed by THT Rep’s Artistic Director Livy Scanlon, the sixth annual darkly comic 60-minute performance invites audiences to the séance-like experience featuring two of Poe’s most notorious narrators.

The production combines and brings two of Poe’s chilling tales to life, “The Tell-Tale Heart,” in which an irrational obsession drives a nervous caregiver to madness, and “The Cask of Amontillado,” in which the aggrieved Montresor lures his rival Fortunato to an untimely fate. Through vivid performances and multiple characters, the Double Header features Poe’s haunting stories in an intimate theatrical setting.

The tales are brought to audiences by Scanlon, who most recently directed the THT Rep’s production of “Romeo + Juliet.” In addition to her work with THT Rep, Scanlon has appeared across regional stages including Trinity Rep, Asolo Rep, Hartford Stage, Urbanite Theatre, and Paper Mill Playhouse, as well as internationally with the Prague Shakespeare Company. She has been featured in Worcester Magazine’s Women to Watch and Worcester Business Journal’s Power 50 and received both an Elliot Norton Award for Outstanding Director and an IRNE Award for Outstanding Actress.

“This annual production is a signature part of the Halloween season at THT Rep, giving audiences the opportunity to experience Poe’s work in a uniquely intimate and theatrical way,” Hanover Theatre & Conservatory for the Performing Arts President and CEO Alan Seiffert said. “With special events throughout the run, we are excited to invite audiences to make a night of their visit and experience the community that surrounds THT Rep.”
