MIDDLETOWN – In past years, food insecurity was felt predominantly among residents of inner cities. That is not the case today with inflation and rising food prices.

Now, food insecurity is being felt among suburban families as well, as noted by Middletown Mayor Joseph DeStefano.

“A lot of time, people think of the need as just an urban center. More people are living in the city therefore we can focus all that need there,” he said. “That’s not true. We have a lot of people who participate on a daily basis from outside the city using the soup kitchen.”

Middletown is among those communities and volunteers that will be participating in the Regional Food Bank’s Thanksgiving dinner distribution – over 500,000 meals to neighbors in 23 counties.

Distribution sites open on Saturday, November 21 and donations are requested to help fill the need.
