PELHAM, N.H. — A Chelmsford man is facing drunken driving and felony reckless conduct charges after police say he caused a head-on crash on Friday night and continued striking the other vehicle multiple times after the initial collision.
The Pelham Police Department said Mark Breen, 42, was additionally charged with reckless operation after witnesses told police he continued accelerating his 2020 Honda Civic into the other vehicle after the crash, pushing the 2000 Chevrolet 1500 pickup truck about 100 feet before both vehicles came to a stop.
Breen and the operator of the pickup were both hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
Police and firefighters were dispatched at about 7:20 p.m. Friday to Mammoth Road near Bush Hill Road for a report of the head-on collision. Breen was driving north on Mammoth Road when his Civic is alleged to have crossed the double-yellow centerline and struck the southbound pickup head-on.
Sgt. Ryan Donovan, who investigated the crash, determined that Breen caused the collision after driving into oncoming traffic and was impaired at the time, according to police. Witnesses told police that after the initial impact, Breen allegedly continued accelerating and struck the pickup several more times, pushing it about 100 feet north before finally stopping.
Breen was released on bail after appearing before a bail commissioner and is scheduled to be arraigned Nov. 2 at Salem District Court.
Mammoth Road was closed in the area of Bush Hill Road for about an hour while emergency crews investigated the crash and removed the vehicles from the roadway.
Police are asking anyone who witnessed the crash to contact Donovan at 603-635-2411 or [email protected].
