KINGSTON – Marbletown Town Supervisor Richard Parete has been named as commissioner of the Ulster County Department of Public Works.
He will step down from that post on November 18 when he assumes his new role of acting commissioner. He must be confirmed by the county legislature.
Parete has a long history of public service. He served eight terms in the county legislature beginning in 2002.
He has served as Marbletown supervisor since 2018.
County Legislature Chairman Peter Criswell said Parete “brings decades of hands-on public service to this role, from his years in the county legislature to his leadership as Marbletown Town supervisor. He knows how DPW works from the inside out, and he knows how to build strong working relationships with everyone from frontline staff to the legislature to the executive’s office.”
Richard Parete’s family has been involved in county government for years. His brother, Robert, and their father, also served in the county legislature.
