GOSHEN – Orange County’s new Health Commissioner Dr. Cortland Lohff discussed the county’s issues, services and challenges when he takes over.
The doctor, who most recently worked in the New Mexico Department of Health, spoke before the county legislature’s Personnel Committee on Monday.
When dealing with a diverse population like in Orange, he said transportation of children to school is important.
“Early intervention and pre-school actually have the funds available to support those kids to be able to get that school, and I think that’s great. That is one example of the many things we can do to help support our communities to make sure they are as engaged as possible and have access to healthcare and other kinds of services to meet their needs,” he said.
Lohff is also a proponent of housing as well. “When a house is healthy, I think there are better health outcomes among children and all other folks that live there.”
The county legislature must confirm Lohff’s appointment, which is a mere formality.
