ALBANY – A proposal for New York State to submit New York Stewart International Airport as the state’s proposed site for a is “intriguing and interesting” to Governor Hochul’s office, according to Senator James Skoufis (D, Cornwall).
NASA has asked each state to submit a proposed location for a national academy, and Skoufis proposed the Newburgh area airport as New York’s entrant.
He has already met with top state officials, who he said agreed Stewart is a “very attractive site for this type or project.”
The state leaders will due their due diligence and feasibility study into the proposal, said Skoufis.
“There are obviously FAA rules having to do with what can be built, in what form things can be built around airports. There are some other issues that are specific to the Port Authority,” he said.
The Port Authority operates Stewart on land owned by the State Department of Transportation.
