ALBANY – The Bloomington Fire District, which covers the towns of Rosendale and Ulster, failed to obtain an audit of the treasurer’s financial records, as required by general municipal law, for eight years.
As a result of that failure, “transparency of the district’s fiscal activities was diminished,” the audit said. “As a result, district residents, taxpayers, Office of the State Comptroller and other interested parties did not have access to the district’s current fiscal condition.”
The audit said the fire district board has the responsibility to initiate corrective action and must submit a plan that addresses the findings and recommendations within 90 days.
The board generally agreed with the comptroller’s findings.
