LEOMINSTER — With autumn finally offering a welcome break from summer’s heat, the Ladies of St. Anna Society are already looking ahead to the holiday season — and inviting the community to do some Christmas shopping along the way.
The society will host its annual Countdown to Christmas Craft Fair from 4 to 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 23, and from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 24, at St. Anna Parish Church Hall, 194 Lancaster St.
The event offers considerably more than crafts, with vendors, specialty items, raffles, auctions, gift baskets, food and plenty of opportunities to find something for everyone on a Christmas list.
Among the handcrafted offerings will be Christmas angel tree toppers, stained-glass gifts, handmade beaded pens and key chains, bling hair brushes and 3D-printed items.
The popular Lottery Scratch Ticket/Gift Card Wreath will return after being a big hit last year. The wreath combines restaurant and store gift cards with lottery tickets, offering a little something for everyone.
The Chinese Auction will feature an assortment of prizes, including grocery, restaurant, shopping and beauty gift certificates, fine jewelry and other items. The fair will also once again offer a $200 VISA gift card.
There is no admission fee, and visitors can enter a free drawing for a beautiful door prize by dropping their ticket into the designated box.
The society’s Designer Baskets will also return, with themes ranging from Italian and American Doll to Breakfast, Baby Boy, Laundry, Wine and Couch Potato.
And for those who arrive hungry, the aroma from Nonni’s Café will provide another reason to stay. The café will serve Italian favorites, including Marian’s Italian wedding soup, which is returning to the menu, along with meatball subs, sausage, pepper and onion subs, pasta and meatballs, hot dogs and pizza.
Dessert lovers can indulge in the fair’s popular warm brownie sundaes topped with vanilla ice cream or browse the bake table, which will be filled with homemade pastries and desserts prepared by the Ladies of St. Anna Society and parishioners who enjoy volunteering.
Shoppers can also explore Nonni’s Attic Flea Market, where an assortment of treasures will be waiting for new homes, as well as Nonni’s Jewelry Box, featuring gently worn jewelry. As organizers note, visitors never know what they might find.
The Ladies of St. Anna Society has more than 250 members ranging in age from 16 to “90-something.” Officers are Beth Castriotta Donlan, president; Angela Cahill, vice president; Theresa McEwen, secretary; and Bobbe DeFelice, treasurer.
The society plays an important role in supporting St. Anna Parish, the school and the wider community by raising money for these groups while also fostering community spirit and fellowship.
