WAPPINGERS FALLS – Village and state police responded to a report of a barricaded subject in an apartment Friday evening just before 9 pm.  The possibly intoxicated man was believed to have access to firearms in his second-floor apartment at the corner of West Main Street (Route 9D) and Delavergne Avenue, resulting in a large contingent of law enforcement responding to the area.

A woman was in the apartment with him and refused to leave.

State troopers launched a drone from the field behind RPH Auto Repair to provide the command center with a tactical overview of the area.

Police negotiators convinced the woman to open the door and allow police to enter just before 11 p.m.

The man, believed to be in his 30s, was taken into custody and transported by ambulance to a local hospital for a psychiatric evaluation.
