Investigative journalism organization Muckraker is drawing renewed attention to its documentary Replacing Europe: Following the World’s Deadliest Migration Route, which examines how migrants travel from Africa into Europe and alleges that governments and humanitarian organizations help facilitate their movement across the continent.
The documentary follows journalists Anthony and Joshua Rubin as they investigate migration routes beginning in West Africa and extending through Spain, France and the United Kingdom. The team spent more than two months documenting the journey, interviewing migrants and examining the involvement of organizations operating along the route.

Muckraker promoted the documentary on X on Wednesday, October 14, highlighting footage of migration operations and confrontations its journalists encountered during the investigation.
The film originally premiered on the Tucker Carlson Network on January 20, 2026, where it was released as a 48-minute documentary.
According to Muckraker’s official description, the investigation began in Africa before following migrants toward the Spanish Canary Islands and across Europe. The filmmakers say they used undercover reporting and interactions with migrants, nongovernmental organizations and individuals involved in migration networks to examine how the system operates.
“We followed the illegal immigration pipeline from Africa into and across Europe,” Muckraker stated in its October 14 promotional post.
“Over two months, we traced how tens of thousands of illegal aliens are moved into and across Europe, and who’s making it happen,” the organization added.
Among the documentary’s allegations is that some government-supported organizations help migrants continue their journeys after reaching European territory.
Muckraker says its footage includes a United Nations migration worker discussing financial incentives connected to migration, migrants being transported by aircraft to mainland Europe and organizations providing assistance to individuals crossing international borders.
The filmmakers argue that these arrangements demonstrate government involvement in facilitating mass migration. However, the documentary’s broader allegations about official motives and financial interests have not been independently established.
The investigation also documents an altercation in which Muckraker personnel were reportedly attacked while filming.
“We were violently attacked and nearly arrested for exposing how Europe is being replaced,” the organization stated.
The footage highlights growing scrutiny of the West African migration route, which has become an important pathway for people attempting to reach European territory.
Migrants departing countries such as Senegal frequently attempt dangerous Atlantic Ocean crossings to Spain’s Canary Islands, while others travel through North Africa toward the Spanish mainland.
The journey can involve overcrowded boats, difficult weather conditions and reliance on criminal smuggling networks that charge substantial fees for transportation.
An earlier ARTE documentary examining departures from Senegal documented how economic pressures, including difficulties facing local fishing communities, have contributed to migration toward the Canary Islands.
Once migrants reach Spain, their legal circumstances can differ significantly. Some seek asylum or qualify for humanitarian protections, while others lack authorization to remain in Europe.
Government agencies and humanitarian organizations may provide temporary shelter, transportation or assistance under applicable national and international laws. Such services do not necessarily establish that authorities are deliberately encouraging unauthorized migration.
Muckraker’s documentary presents a sharply critical interpretation of these arrangements, arguing that European governments have enabled large-scale population movements while failing to address their effects on local communities.
The organization previously attracted attention for undercover investigations involving migration across the U.S.-Mexico border, including reporting on unaccompanied migrant children and suspected human-smuggling operations.
Its latest documentary places similar scrutiny on European migration policy, focusing on the connections between migration routes, government agencies, humanitarian groups and smuggling networks.
The film’s claims about intentional demographic change remain allegations presented by its creators, but its release adds to an ongoing debate over border enforcement, migration management and the accountability of organizations operating along international migration routes.
