Local nurse presents at national conference

TOWNSEND — North Middlesex Regional School District Resource Nurse Rebecca Boutwell is speaking at the National Association of School Nurses Conference this week.

Boutwell will speak at the virtual conference, Learning Without Limits, that ends Friday. She will give a presentation titled “Beyond the Plate: Dual Diagnosis, Social Media and IHP in Eating Disorder Care.”

The presentation explores the complex factors influencing eating disorders in students, including co-occurring mental health conditions and the impact of social media. Through case-based strategies and practical examples, participants will learn how to apply Individualized Health Plans to support students across grade levels, reduce stigma and strengthen the school nurse’s role in fostering safe, supportive learning environments.

Boutwell currently serves on the board of the Massachusetts School Nurse Organization as their Data Coordinator. She also serves on the Massachusetts School Nurse Data Workgroup with the Department of Public Health School Health Unit and is co-leader of the Behavioral Health Data Collection Subcommittee.

“We are extremely grateful to have Becky serve our district, students and families,” Supervisor of Health Services Cathryn Hampson said. “She goes above and beyond to provide educational opportunities and resources to our school community. The North Middlesex community would like to congratulate Mrs. Boutwell on this outstanding opportunity. We are excited for her to share her knowledge and expertise on a national scale.”
