WARWICK – The Warwick Town Board has decided not to renew its contract with the Flock company for its license plate reader program.
The most recent contract expired in August.
Town Supervisor Jesse Dwyer said the decision was made in an open process and takes into account the best interests of the community.
“At no time did the Town of Warwick violate its policies governing the use of this technology. We established and strictly followed policies designed to protect the privacy of our residents and safeguard the information collected,” he said. “The town maintained ownership and control of its data, which was automatically deleted after 30 days. That information was not made available to outside entities and there were zero breaches of our internal policies.”
Dwyer said the decision not to renew the flock contract should not be interpreted as criticism of the police department or the responsible manner in which it was used.
The cities of Newburgh and Poughkeepsie are among other Mid-Hudson communities working to severe their relationships with the Flock company license plate reader program.
