MONTICELLO – In the last six years, 1,285 cases of domestic violence have been reported in Sullivan County.

And District Attorney Brian Conaty said the types of cases may vary but they all have one common denominator.

“Of those, 846 were harmed by current or former intimate partners. Six-hundred and ninety-six of those victims were women, while 150 were men. The other 439 were armed by another family member, being a parent, a child or a sibling,” he said. “Of the 108 victims of sex offenses, 83 were harmed by a family member other than the partner. Too often, that means that a child was victimized.”

Conaty said if you have been victimized, call the state domestic violence hotline, his office, or which has counselors and programs available to victims.
