LEOMINSTER — Leominster firefighters responded to a fire on Friday night at about 9:30 p.m. in a rail car on the tracks near 71 Mechanic St., which involved a lot of recycling materials in the rail car that burned, but no injuries or damage, according to Deputy Fire Chief Sean Gray.
“It was big, it was showy, but it was essentially just a rail car on fire, full of trash,” said Gray.
“It took an hour to get under control,” Gray said.
Due to the large amount of burning material, it required the full complement of firefighters on duty, so a second unit had to be called in to cover.
Gray said there was no damage to the railroad, and also no obvious damage to the rail car that the fire was inside of.
