LOS ANGELES — Marvel’s experiment with television series set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe began in 2021 with WandaVision. Following the middle installment, Agatha All Along, the trilogy is set to conclude with VisionQuest, which premieres Oct. 14.

Based on the first reactions, audiences believe the series delivers a strong finish to the three-part story.

“The ‘Wandavision’ trilogy comes to a near-perfect conclusion with #visionquest,” wrote @Elphaba_Anne on X. The critic praised Terry Matalas for demonstrating a deep appreciation for the projects that came before while establishing his own storytelling approach and distinct creative vision.

“It’s awesome,” said Brian Quinn of Impractical Jokers.

Paul Bettany returns to the MCU in VisionQuest as Vision, although the character is not quite the same version audiences have previously seen. Instead of directly reprising the role he originated in Avengers: Age of Ultron, Bettany plays White Vision.

The character’s history is closely tied to the franchise’s earlier installments. Bettany has voiced the artificial intelligence J.A.R.V.I.S. since the first MCU film, Iron Man. White Vision, meanwhile, is Vision’s corpse, brought back to life as an amnesiac soldier by S.W.O.R.D. following his death in Infinity War.

At the conclusion of WandaVision, White Vision recovers his original memories through an encounter with a version of Vision recreated by the Scarlet Witch as a magical construct.

“We’ve seen all 8 episodes of VISIONQUEST and this is easily one of Marvel’s best shows – up there with Wonder Man and Loki,” wrote @Mar_Tesseract on X. The viewer described the series as a strange, beautiful and visually striking story with considerable emotional impact, bringing the trilogy that started with WandaVision and continued with Agatha All Along to a close.

The series, created by Terry Matalas, also features the return of James Spader as Ultron. The actor reprises his role as the villainous robot for the first time since the character’s debut in 2015’s Avengers: Age of Ultron.

Ruaridh Mollica also makes his series debut as Tommy Maximoff, also known as Speed. The character is the grown-up version of Scarlet Witch and Vision’s son, who was introduced in WandaVision and subsequently appeared in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

“#VISIONQUEST is trippy, transcendent, and totally terrific. It’s also a surprisingly transformative and thoughtful exploration of the beauty and humanity behind the machine,” wrote @dbapz on X.

The viewer credited Matalas with creating an emotionally affecting and visually impressive series that places genuine feeling at the center of its story. The reaction also highlighted Bettany and Spader, describing their performances as the best of their careers.
