BURBANK, Calif. — Disney is carrying out another round of layoffs, eliminating a few hundred positions across multiple departments, according to a source familiar with the cuts.

The reductions represent the third round of job cuts this year under recently appointed CEO Josh D’Amaro. Most of the latest layoffs are affecting Disney’s human resources and IT departments, both at the corporate level and across different parts of the company, the source said.

Disney executives had previously indicated that additional reductions were expected. When the company reported results for the June 2026 quarter, D’Amaro and CFO Hugh Johnston said Disney was continuing to look for ways to lower expenses.

“We remain highly focused on reducing costs across the enterprise to create incremental capacity to invest for growth and are evaluating a variety of levers, including reductions in labor and SG&A,” the executives wrote in an Aug. 5 letter to shareholders. SG&A refers to selling, general and administrative expenses. They added that the company was “mid-stream” in the effort and would provide further updates.

The latest layoffs follow a series of workforce reductions throughout 2026. In April, Disney eliminated about 1,000 positions, largely following D’Amaro’s creation of a consolidated enterprise marketing division led by Asad Ayaz, the company’s chief marketing and brand officer.

Disney carried out another round of cuts in July, eliminating several hundred positions across selected corporate functions, including at Pixar, ESPN, Disney Entertainment Television and the company’s studios. Most of the studio-related reductions came at Pixar, while most of the cuts within the television group affected National Geographic.

In August, Disney also offered early-retirement buyout packages to longtime executives as part of its continuing efforts to reduce costs.

Disney reported approximately 231,000 full- and part-time employees as of September 2025, when its fiscal year ended.

The latest layoffs were first reported Tuesday.
