FITCHBURG — The City of Fitchburg Health Department will hold a Community Narcan and Overdose Prevention Training on Wednesday, September 30, at the Legislative Building, 700 Main St. Doors will open at 5:15 p.m. for resource tables and
refreshments. The training will begin at 6 p.m.

Naloxone, sold under the brand name Narcan, is an easy-to-use medication that blocks the effects of opioids (such as heroin, morphine, fentanyl, etc.) and can be used to reverse an opioid overdose. The training will be given by Keith Barnaby, Fitchburg Street Outreach Worker and a Recovery Coach.

Attendees will learn how to recognize an opioid overdose and how to respond, including when and how to use lifesaving Narcan. An opportunity to ask questions will be available.

Narcan will be distributed to all who attend. This event is free and open to the community.

Registration is suggested by calling Fitchburg Outreach at (978) 829-1854 but walk-ins will be welcome. The City of Fitchburg is an affiliate of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Community Naloxone Purchasing Program.
