CARMEL – Putnam County was allocated $50,000 by State Senator Peter Harckham through the Capital Reimbursement Grant (CREST) program for use towards repairs for the Sybil Ludington statue in Carmel.

During the state’s review, it was determined that such an allocation was not an eligible project.

Barbara Barosa, commissioner of the Department of Planning and Development proposed the amount be used to subsidize the costs of security upgrades at the William Koehler Senior Center in Mahopac.

Hundreds of “seasoned citizens” use the center located on Route 6 near the county line daily for recreation and socialization.

The legislature’s oversight committee agreed to spend the money on projects that include both interior and exterior video surveillance as well as access into the building consisting of new doors.

The full legislature is expected to approve the grant application at its meeting October 6.
