SOUTHEAST- A 35-year-old Connecticut man is facing felony charges of aggravated driving while intoxicated with child passengers (Leandra’s Law) for operating his vehicle on Route 84 in Southeast, allegedly under the influence of alcohol, while his eight and one-year-old children were passengers.
State Police Monday reported the arrest of Edber Chamba, 35, of Danbury.
Troop K Public Information Officer Trooper Krystal Paolicelli said a patrol stopped a speeding eastbound car at 3:30 a.m. and when questioning the driver, a trooper from the East Fishkill barracks noticed that Chamba exhibited signs of intoxication. Standardized Field Sobriety Tests were administered, and Chamba was placed under arrest.
Chamba was taken into custody and transported to the police barracks for processing, where he submitted to a chemical breath test that yielded a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of 0.16 percent or twice the legal limit for DWI in New York State.
The children were released to a sober adult.
In addition to the felony charges, Chamba was arrested for driving while intoxicated and operating a motor vehicle with a blood alcohol content of 0.08 percent or higher. He was also ticketed for several traffic violations.
He was released on bail pending a future court hearing in Southeast.
