An Evening of Bluegrass coming to Lunenburg Public Library

LUNENBURG — From old-time country and folk to gospel, blues and Celtic traditions, bluegrass music draws from a rich mix of influences — creating a sound that continues to connect generations of music lovers.

That sound will fill the Lunenburg Public Library on Thursday, Sept. 24, when the library presents an “Evening of Bluegrass” at 6:30 p.m.

The acoustic performance will feature Pete, Doc, Greg, Pam and John, a group of seasoned musicians who have spent decades playing both casual jam sessions and professional performances.

The musicians will bring a mix of toe-tapping favorites, familiar tunes and lesser-known musical gems from the bluegrass and Americana traditions.

For those who are longtime bluegrass fans, the evening will offer a chance to hear classic songs performed by experienced musicians. For those new to the genre, it will provide an introduction to the distinctive harmonies, instrumentation and traditions that have helped make bluegrass a lasting part of American music.

The musicians will also share stories behind some of the songs, exploring how the music evolved from the various traditions that helped shape American musical history.

The program promises an evening of live music that is both entertaining and educational, with plenty of opportunities for audience members to sing along.

“We all just enjoy playing, and play in jams whenever we’re able, said Pete Cowley. “Playing in groups allows us learn new songs, use our imaginations to improvise, and just plain have fun. And it’s even more fun when we’re able to share the music with others!”

The “Evening of Bluegrass” is part of the Lunenburg Public Library’s Monthly Music Series. Registration is encouraged but not required.

The concert is sponsored in part through funding for the library’s Monthly Music Series, supported by North End Subaru.
