MONTICELLO – A Monticello man was arrested on Tuesday, September 15 as he was on his way to attend the Sullivan County Court Drug Program.
Barry Bowser, 37, was arrested as a result of a search warrant at his home at 591 Broadway in Monticello.
He was on probation for a previous drug offense when he was intercepted by sheriff’s detectives at the courthouse.
Deputies recovered some 35 grams of heroin/fentanyl, crack cocaine, digital scales and packaging material.
“Mr. Bowser side stepped a possible 12-year sentence on the last go-round,” said Sheriff Mike Schiff. “I would say that deal is now off the table along with the new charges.”
Bowser was now charged with felony drug possession and misdemeanor criminal use of drug paraphernalia.
He was also charged with animal cruelty for an emaciated dog found inside his residence.
Due to his three prior felony convictions, he was sent to the Sullivan County Jail without bail.
The sheriff’s office was assisted in the three-month investigation by district attorney investigators, Homeland Security Investigations and Monticello Village Police.
