VISTA — A man who drove under the influence and crashed into another motorist at a Carlsbad intersection, leading to the other driver’s death, pleaded guilty today to charges that include gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.
Philip Webb, 34, faces up to 10 years in state prison when he is sentenced for the August 2025 crash that killed Leonard Davison, 51.
Prosecutors said Webb had a blood-alcohol level of around 0.10% and ran a red light at Piraeus Street at around 5:20 a.m. that day, striking and overturning Davison’s pickup truck that was traveling along La Costa Avenue.
Davison was taken to a hospital, where he died.
Webb, who initially faced a murder charge, is slated to be sentenced next month.
