Los Angeles — Practical Magic 2, starring Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman, opened at No. 1 at the North American box office, taking in an estimated $30 million from 4,146 theaters.

The sequel arrives nearly 28 years after the original Practical Magic and brought an end to Spider-Man: Brand New Day’s six-week stretch at the top of the domestic box office.

International ticket sales added approximately $16 million, putting the film’s worldwide opening at about $46 million. The result came in at the lower end of Warner Bros.’ projected $30 million-$35 million domestic range. The movie reportedly carried a $75 million production budget.

Bullock and Kidman return as sisters Sally and Gillian Owens, while the sequel expands the Owens family with younger characters portrayed by Joey King and Maisie Williams. Lee Pace also joins the cast.
