The Sterling Fair has been going on all weekend and runs through Sunday, Sept. 13, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the airport in town on Greenland Road in Sterling. While admission and parking remain free, donations collected at the entrance are appreciated and help keep it free. The Sterling Fair is an all-volunteer, family-oriented community agricultural fair with the emphasis on agriculture and education. Organizers bill it as New England’s largest free fair: admission and parking are both free, paid for by sponsorships and by the annual Fair Button sold through Sterling businesses each summer. Across the weekend it runs midway carnival rides, horse, oxen and tractor pulls, an antique engine and machinery show, livestock shows, a farmers’ market, food and craft vendors and live entertainment. The exhibit side includes a general exhibit hall and a dedicated Lego exhibit and livestock exhibit. On Sunday, there will be horse pulls and kiddie tractor pulls, as well as a demonstration on backyard composting.
