FITCHBURG — Rollstone Family Dental at 164 Elm St. recently held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the office’s renovation and move from the basement of its building to a newly outfitted and remodeled first floor office.

Staff and local dignitaries gathered on Aug. 5 to cut the ribbon on the new office, and celebrate its ability to better serve its patients. Those on hand included Fitchburg Mayor Sam Squailia, state Rep. Michael Kushmerek and Fitchburg City Councilor Beth Walsh, who serves as a community liaison for state Sen. John Cronin, all of whom presented citations from the state and city government to recognize and celebrate the advancement that will be achieved by moving to the new upstairs office.

“I’ve been so lucky to have the team that I have,” said Dentist Mark Berenshteyn, who owns the dental practice. He said they have been working “over the last two years to grow the practice, grow the team, provide great care for people ….  so finally after all these years … I’m able to do these renovations.  I’m just so grateful, so thankful to the team that works with me every day … I’m incredibly grateful, incredibly lucky.”

The dental office has been at this location since 1980, said Berenshteyn. Dr. Michael Pelletier was the original owner. He built his practice in the building’s basement and rented out the upstairs to various tenants over the years, including the Finnish newspaper, a lawyer, and a sheriff. The building itself was originally the second location of WCU, then the Finnish credit union.

“Since I became the owner of the practice, my goal has been to renovate the upstairs and turn it into the main clinical area of the dental practice,” Berenshteyn said. “This was a complete gut, we took down all the floors, walls, ceiling, plumbing, etc., and built from scratch while we continued to operate in the basement. The main motivators were that many of our patients couldn’t get down our massive flight of stairs, and we began running into capacity issues out are practice and were booking people out too far.”

Fitchburg City Councilor Beth Walsh, who works in the office of state Sen. John Cronin, gives a citation of recognition from the state Senate to Dentist Mark Berenshteyn at the grand opening for the newly renovated Rollstone Family Dental office at 164 Elm Street in Fitchburg.

“It’s a lot of risk and a lot of fear, building a practice,” Berenshteyn said. “I came to Fitchburg and the patients here, the community here, absolutely amazing … A couple of years ago, I wasn’t really sure what I was getting into …  but I came to Fitchburg and the patients here and the community here, absolutely amazing. …

“I knew when I came in here, when I met the patients, when met the team, when I saw the practice,  I knew it was absolutely the right place. … Standing here, where I am today, it’s beyond my wildest dreams and I have Fitchburg to thank for that and the Mayor’s Office helped with the parking lot.”
