MONTGOMERY – A poignant tribute to those lost 25 years ago on 9/11 was held Friday night at Orange County’s Thomas Bull Memorial Park in Montgomery. Hundreds gathered on a warm, picturesque evening to remember what remains the most horrific act in American history.
Red roses were handed out to those in attendance, and many later placed them at the site of the park’s Memorial Globe.
Orange County Executive Steven Neuhaus began his day in New York City for a remembrance ceremony at the site of the World Trade Center. He said he had been thinking about his speech for this occasion all year.
“It’s an important day for everybody. And an important day for me,” Neuhaus said. “I worked at Tower II at the World Trade Center, and if 9/11 didn’t happen, I wouldn’t be your county executive, and I probably wouldn’t be in the military like so many others.”
The ceremony honored the memory of the 44 Orange County residents who lost their lives during the attacks and the 10 Orange County residents that made the ultimate sacrifice defending the United States in Operations Iraqi and Enduring Freedom. In honor of the 25th Anniversary, brief biographies were read for each of the 44 County residents who died during the attacks as well as those who have made the ultimate serving in the military.
