WORCESTER — Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Mass & MetroWest will bring its Paint the Town Green campaign to Fitchburg, Marlborough and Worcester from September 14-20.
The weeklong initiative aims to put mentorship in the spotlight, increase awareness of its impact on young people and encourage more members of the community to step forward as mentors.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Mass & MetroWest is encouraging local businesses and organizations to help turn their communities green throughout the week. Participants can get involved in a variety of creative ways, from illuminating buildings and decorating storefronts in green to featuring green logos, signage, products or menu items. This is not a fundraiser, it’s an awareness campaign designed to spark conversations about mentorship, engage the broader community and inspire more people to make a difference in the life of a local young person.
“Every young person deserves to have someone in their corner who believes in them, encourages them and helps them see what’s possible,” said Connie Askin, CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Mass & MetroWest. “Paint the Town Green gives local business and organizations a fun, visible way to rally around that mission, spark conversations and inspire more people to become mentors. By participating, businesses aren’t just showing their support, they’re helping create lasting change for young people across our community.”
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Mass & MetroWest envisions a world where every child who needs a mentor has one. Currently, one in three kids in America do not have a mentor outside their own family, and more than 100 kids locally are on a waiting list to be matched with a mentor, Big Brothers Big Sisters representatives said.
“By offering life-changing mentoring relationships, Big Brothers Big Sisters provides young people with the support and guidance they need to succeed both academically and personally,” officials said in a press release.
Big Brothers Big Sisters is a nonprofit organization that has supported children in the community through individualized mentoring programs for over 60 years.
The mission of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Mass & MetroWest is to create and support one-to-one mentoring relationships that ignite the power and promise of youth. These professionally supported, one-to-one mentoring relationships support the social and emotional development needed for youth to build resilience, mental health and well-being. Representatives said these relationships enrich the lives of youth in the Central Mass and MetroWest communities and build brighter futures.
