GROTON — Firefighters responded to and extinguished an electrical fire in a Groton home Monday night, the Groton Fire Department said in a statement Tuesday.

The department said its firefighters responded to the Maple Avenue home at approximately 8:55 p.m. after receiving reports of a fire. The firefighters located the blaze inside the walls of the home where it is believed to have started. The affected walls were opened up in order to extinguish the flame and stop it from spreading.

The residents of the house have been temporarily displaced, though all of them were able to exit the home before firefighters arrived, and no injuries were reported. The fire was extinguished at 9:15 p.m., and the scene was cleared just after 10 p.m.

The Groton Fire Department said mutual aid was called for from the fire departments of Shirley, Ayer and Townsend, but it was canceled when Groton firefighters were able to respond and extinguish the flame relatively quickly. The Pepperell Fire Department provided station coverage while Groton firefighters and the Groton Electric Light Department responded to the scene.

“I want to acknowledge our firefighters for their quick response and for preventing the fire from spreading further into the home,” said Fire Chief Arthur Cheeks. “Due to their immediate actions, there was only minimal damage to the home, and residents should be able to return soon.”

The exact cause of the fire is still under investigation, the department said.
