FITCHBURG — Twenty-five years after the Sept. 11 attacks changed the nation forever, the Fitchburg community will come together through music to remember those who were lost and honor the heroes who responded.

Christ Church, 569 Main St., will present a special Concert of Remembrance at 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 11, commemorating the 25th anniversary of the attacks.

A choir of 30 voices will be joined by the Merrimack Valley Ringers handbell ensemble, directed by Karen Leonard; cellists Mary Carfagna, Sofia Hernandez-Williams, Seth MacLeod and Caroline Reiner-Williams; percussionist James Roy; and organist Mary Gregory.

The program will feature reflective and inspiring music and will culminate in the premiere of a new arrangement of “The Star-Spangled Banner.”

“The memories of September 11 and its aftermath remain fresh in our minds after all these years,” said Robert Potterton III, the concert’s director and Minister of Music & the Arts at Christ Church. “We want to provide a space for remembrance and for honoring the many heroes that were made that day.”

Fitchburg Mayor Samantha Squailia will speak during the event, and representatives from the city’s first responders will also be in attendance.

The concert is free and open to everyone. Seating is first come, first served, beginning at 6:30 p.m. For more information, visit ChristChurchFitchburg.org or contact the Christ Church parish office.
